Narratively is Hiring a Social Media Intern!

We’re a digital publication that prides itself on looking beyond the news headlines and clickbait, focusing instead on ordinary people with extraordinary stories. And we’re looking for someone to help us step up our social media game — crafting and scheduling compelling Facebook posts and tweets to promote our stories, and helping us start experimenting with Facebook Live, 360 video and Snapchat.

The position will require the equivalent of one day per week, but the work can be done all at once or spread out over the week to fit your schedule. This can be a remote position, but the social media intern is also welcome to work from our office in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and encouraged to come to our weekly story pitch meetings. There will also be opportunities to get involved in other aspects of the editorial process, such as reading submissions and fact-checking stories, depending on interest.

The ideal candidate will be highly active on social media, with an understanding of what makes a great tweet or Facebook post, the difference between the two, and fresh ideas for how an against-the-grain media outlet like Narratively should be using social media. Candidates should also be passionate about storytelling and journalism, and understand how to pull the most titillating part of a story out and turn it into a clickable, compelling social post. We’re looking for someone who can start in September and ideally stay on for the full academic year, through June, though we’re open to shorter terms as well.
