Just as integral to American tradition as the peaceful transition of power between Presidents, is the right to peaceably assemble and exercise the right to free speech. The Women’s March on Washington is a grassroots network of rallies marching for diversity in both color and cause. All 50 states, over 70 countries, all seven continents. The Womens March on Washington dies down as the sun sets, but reports say that women across the globe are continuing their fight. Gays Against Guns is a group of LGBTQ people and their allies committed to ending gun violence and, according to their statement of intent, “nonviolently breaking the gun industry’s chain of death”—investors, manufacturers, the NRA and other lobby groups that work to block gun control laws. 4PM EST: Donald Trump visits the headquarters of the CIA and delivers remarks, during which he described the size of the crowd in attendance on the National Mall during his inauguration the day before. The throngs “went all the way back to the Washington monument,” he claimed, while in fact footage from the event shows that the crowds stopped well short of the monument. 2:45pm EST: Media outlets are reporting that 500,000 people are currently marching in Washington, D.C. The Chicago Police Department has asked people to stay home – they expected 50,000, but reportedly over 150,000 have turned out. Sister marches are going on in New York City, Boston, Seattle, Phoenix, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, St. Paul, Minnesota, Key West, Florida, and many other American cities.
