48 Minutes With the "World's Worst Cancer Mom": Join our LIVE VIDEO CHAT with Elizabeth Austin
Did you read Elizabeth's awe-inspiring story? If you did (or plan to!) and you want to know the behind-the-scenes of the piece, come join us this Wednesday at 1 ET.
*Editor’s note: This live video chat has already taken place; you can watch a full replay of the conversation here.*
After recently publishing Elizabeth Austin’s gripping essay, “I Was the World’s Worst Cancer Mom,” we weren’t surprised to hear from a lot of people with strong reactions. One reader wrote, “This story was so touching … I can’t imagine what Elizabeth must have been feeling.” Another said, “Everybody copes with hard times in their lives differently. We shouldn’t feel ashamed for being human and doing human stuff.” Others wrote in saying how she was a great mom, an inspiration, a gorgeous writer. All true. You, dear reader, probably had your own feelings while reading it. Which is why we’ve decided to do a live follow-up chat with Elizabeth herself so we can hear from her about what it was like to live through this unique experience, and how it felt to then write about it for all the world to see.
Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12, at 1 p.m. Eastern for a conversation between writer Elizabeth Austin and Narratively co-founder and editor Brendan Spiegel. In advance of our chat — which is free and open to everyone — we’ve removed the paywall on Elizabeth’s amazing essay. We highly encourage you to give it a read, if you haven’t already, and then join us for the chat. We’ll be taking questions from readers, so bring ’em with you when you come, whether you want to know more about Elizabeth’s writing process, or about what’s happened in her life more recently.
Substack’s live-video feature is still fairly new, and for now it’s only available in the Substack app on mobile. If you’re interested in attending, make sure to download the app in advance. You’ll receive a notification with a link to join the chat when we’re live.
And here again is Elizabeth’s now-unpaywalled piece if you want to give it a read in advance of the live chat (and we think you should!):
Thank you, as always, for your support, and we hope to see you on Wednesday!
