Last Call to Join 'The Art and Ethics of Writing Travel Memoir'
There are just two seats left in our small, craft-focused travel writing class. Plus: A new session of our popular personal essay workshop starts next week.
In a previous, pre-Narratively (and pre-kids) life, I spent most of my time as a travel writer, reporting from Mozambique to Manila for The New York Times, The Washington Post and many other publications. In recent years, the writing community has had a lot of important conversations about travel writing — especially as over-tourism has started to threaten many of the world’s most popular destinations, and as we’ve all become a lot more conscious about empowering people to tell their own stories.
I still firmly believe that travel writing has an important place in terms of helping to connect people across the planet. But we need to make sure we do it with consciousness and care. That’s why I’m so excited to have Kerra Bolton teaching The Art and Ethics of Writing Travel Memoir at Narratively Academy this month. And I’m even more excited because I’m going to join the class as a guest speaker one evening, focusing on how to pitch travel articles to top publications. In the rest of the five-week workshop, Kerra will work with students on how to craft authentic travel narratives that will honor the people and places they’ll encounter during their journeys.
There are just two seats left in this small, hands-on class, so if you’re interested in joining, sign up now!
Also starting next week at Narratively Academy is a new session of Deeply Personal: Writing First-Person Essays on Raw and Difficult Topics. Our first two sessions of this class sold out, so we’ve added one more, starting next Thursday, March 13, and as of right now there are just four seats left in that class.

I'm SO excited about this class. Granted, I say that about "every" class. But, after my recent trip to Morocco, I realize how important it is to be mindful in our approach to travel writing. I can't wait to meet everyone.
