This Weekend's Read: My High School Girlfriend Became America’s Most Wanted Drug Queenpin
With our True Romance Writing Prize in full swing, we're looking to one of our all-time favorite love stories for inspiration.
ICYMI, we’re currently accepting submissions for the Narratively x Belletrist True Romance Writing Prize, a collab with Emma Roberts, Karah Preiss and their production company/book club, Belletrist, that we’re very excited about. To give you a better sense of what we’re looking for and get you jazzed about submitting to the contest, we’re sharing one of our all-time favorite stories about love here. There are so many reasons to, well, love this story, but the one that stands out the most is that it feels so relatable. We’ve all had an early crush that we’ve continued to obsess over and keep coming back to over the years. Most searches don’t end quite the way this one did, though, making it a unique and riveting read, to say the least. Need one more reason to check this story out and “like” it? We will be choosing one person at random who “hearts” the post to win a limited-edition “Never Not Reading” hat from Belletrist x Tertulia. So, like away and then head here to submit a longform or shortread piece. —Jesse Sposato, executive editor

By the time I read these Facebook comments I was one-hundred percent obsessed with and embroiled in the story of Elizabeth Barrer — the girl I’d once cared for deeply, the girl I hadn’t seen for exactly half the time I’d been alive and yet thought more about than almost anything else.
